Topographically, Gyeongsan is located in the southwest of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, and is so close to Daegu Metropolitan City that it is rapidly becoming an ideal multi-functional rural-urban city with excellence in educational, cultural, industrial and residential environments.

With respect to transportation, Gyeongbu Expressway, Gyeongbuseon and Daeguseon railroads, industrial roads and national roads pass through this city, and the time taken to reach Daegu International Airport from the city center is just 20 minutes. The Daegu's subway line also expects to be extended to the city. In Gyeongsan area there are 12 colleges and universities, including Yeungnam University, Daegu Catholic University, Taegu University, Kyungil University, Daegu Haany University, where approximately 120,000 students are studying. Also, within Jilyang and Jain industrial complexes are about 1,600 companies with 22,000 employees, and the total amount of their annual exports was US$427 million and is continuously increasing.

Historically, Gyeongsan, the base area of Apyangsoguk community prior to the Three Kingdoms period, is a place where a large number of famous people were born, including the great monk Wonhyo, the great scholar Seolchong and the great scholar Ilyeon. In this city, moreover, there are a variety of cultural relics, including the groups of tombs in Imdang-dong and Jongyeong-dong areas.

Gyeongsan is a garden city where there has been rapid population growth during the current 2-3 years.
